ABOUT US

The latest building we (owners of Kentucky Fudge Company) have been blessed with in beautiful downtown Harrodsburg, Kentucky, was built in the mid 1800's as the National Hotel. Most recently this grand structure was home to the Mercer County Clerk and Records Vault.

Over the years and on all floors it has housed many businesses - The James Flats and various cafes, bars, antique shops, records/music stores, jewelry and dress shops, hair salons and The Red Cross.

When the County took over the building a  Vault had to be constructed to protect all the past and current records.  As we walked through this structure of concrete (floor, ceilings and walls) we marvelled at the differences between it and our Historic Drugstore next door. Devoid of the original tin ceilings, wood floors and colorful wallpapers once present, we wondered what could be done. Our answer has been to embrace and showcase all its history.  We thought it had a vintage industrial feel and decided to "go" with that!

The Vault- Ciders, Suds and Spirits seemed to be the obvious fit. Now home to Bum Ditty Hard Cider and the new James Flats over night lodging, the old National Hotel has found a new life.
